Overview

Located in the heart of Balik Pulau, Penang, Pohton Cafe brings a slice of authentic Pakistani cuisine to a vibrant community eager for bold and comforting flavors. This restaurant excels in its ability to merge tradition and generous portions, delivering a dining experience that resonates deeply with lovers of South Asian fare.

The standout dishes at Pohton Cafe are a testament to their expert culinary craft. Their naan bread, often praised for its large size and perfect texture—with a chewy middle and crisp top—sets a high standard for what fresh-baked flatbread should be. The addition of cheese elevates the naan into a richer, more indulgent treat, perfect for sharing or enjoying solo.

The Tandoori Chicken captivates with its balanced seasoning, offering tender, well-portioned pieces that maintain a smoky yet subtly spiced character, avoiding overwhelming the palate. It pairs flawlessly with the freshly baked naan or the delightfully soft chapati, both of which arrive generous enough to satisfy hearty appetites.

The Nasi Briyani is another highlight, layered with aromatic spices that speak of rich Pakistani culinary traditions. The signature gravy here is notably praised for its depth and texture, adding a luscious complement to the rice and meats. Options like lamb and chicken biryani showcase authentic flavors that remain true to their roots.

Aside from the cuisine, the atmosphere at Pohton Cafe reflects genuine hospitality. Customers consistently mention the warm and attentive nature of the owner and staff, which greatly enhances the overall dining experience. While parking space near the main road of Simpang Empat can be limited, the convenience of location ensures easy access for both locals and visitors exploring Balik Pulau.

Pohton Cafe caters especially well to those in search of authentic Pakistani dishes without compromising portion size or quality. Whether you're a regular craving the comforting taste of a Teh Tarik alongside your meal or a newcomer eager to dive into flavors such as Lamb Naan or Roti Arab, this spot delivers satisfaction with each bite.

In sum, Pohton Cafe stands out not only as a place to enjoy hearty, well-executed Pakistani cuisine but as a locale that embraces its patrons with friendliness and authenticity. It is a recommended destination for food enthusiasts looking to experience true South Asian culinary delight in Penang.

The Naan bread was absolutely delicious. It's big and chewy with a crispy top layer. The Tandoori Chicken is also tasty and the portion is also quite big compared to other similar restaurants. The Nasi Briyani is full of flavours as the spices are abundant. The gravy, oh my god it's amazing. Must try to eat here at least once! Price is also reasonable and the staff and owner are very friendly. 10/10 rating!

The best naan I've ever had. You need to try it to know what I'm talking about! The Tandoori chicken is a generous portion too. Not like those small chicken they use in other shops.

The establishment is placed near the main road of Simpang Empat. The top item from the menu for me are Tandoori Chicken, Naan Bread (especially with cheese) and Biryani Lamb and Chicken. The taste of the food is excellent while the price. The owners are friendly and polite. All of the food is based on Pakistan Cuisine. The only problem is the limited parking but still free. Overall 5 ⭐

Freshly bake naan and chapati are delicious. Both come in generous size. Tandoori chicken is good, not over flavourful. The dal is so think and creamy.

Had the Naan, Cheese Naan, Chapati and Tandoori chicken. The other reviewers have got it right, easily the best naan and chapati in Penang. Naan was soft and fluffy, not undercooked if you might assume. Chapati was soft also, just nicely cooked. Tandoori ever so slightly undercooked at its core. Nasi Arab to be tried next. Parking abit of an issue. Be careful with the traffic. Owner is polite and welcoming, five

The food here is just divine. Everything cooked from scratch with love and pride. We came two days in a row, had the mutton curry(melt in your mouth and so tasty) with biryani rice and also the chicken curry with chapatti. All just delicious. Second time we had the tandoori chicken set with naan. So tasty and so reasonably priced. They have a tandoor as well as a hot plate for chapati. Again the reviews are spot on as the naan are so fresh and fluffy and chapati so fresh and tasty too. It’s a family run business and the owner is originally from SWAT, Northern Pakistan. You will received a warm welcome. The food here is very authentic indeed and spice levels are just right.
